NYC media permalancers
I’m so glad to see that people are complaining about this practice. I’ve always winced when I see the phrase “full-time freelance” in a job ad. It plainly says “we want as much out of you as a regular employee but we’ll not treat you as such.” Some people have told me they don’t think it’s a bad thing since its a) better than nothing b) can give you an “in” with the company for a regular job, however, I still think it’s just a bad way to treat people. Not good if you really want to nurture, grow and retain employees. If you don’t though maybe it helps with the bottom line but do be prepared to spend a lot of resources on recruitment to keep that revolving door revolving.
