UCD vs. Waterfall
A couple years ago I wanted descriptions of other development processes that came before UCD. Since I (blissfully) hadn’t been exposed to them, I didn’t even know what to call them. Plunged into the middle of such methods now, I really need the language to communicate with these more engineering centric folks. So I was really pleased when James Robertson’s query to the AIfIA list about how to facilitate such communication produced a number of resources. He sums it up in User-centred design for large software projects. I would really like to see a process map like those Erin Malon donated to the AIfIA Tools project with the engineering part expanded. (Design Process PDF) They like diagrams too.
